I wanted a place that was ecumenical and diverse, a place that would challenge me academically but focus most of all on teaching me to be an effective pastor; I wanted a place that would give me room to wrestle with my own questions. Andover Newton does all that. I take part in a small-group ministry with rabbinical students from Hebrew College. I worship with Unitarian Universalists—my second spiritual family—and with the Black Student Fellowship. Many of my classes have engaged me spiritually as much as intellectually. I helped create a worship service honoring the LGBT community and have smudged soot on my class-mates foreheads on Ash Wednesday…all in my first year!
