I am a seminarian at Andover Newton Theological Seminary. After having worked as a cardiac nurse for twenty years, I am pursuing my dream of being a hospital chaplain or CPE supervisor. Additionally, it is my honor and joy to work with the people of rural Jamaica through the Blue Mountain Project. As the chair of BMP's health care committee, my work has supported the development of our clinic in Hagley Gap, Jamaica. There, children and adults who might otherwise not get care are treated for such conditions as worms, venereal diseases and hypertension. My last trip to Hagley Gap was with a team of dentists from the University of Michigan. Their generous gift was particularly moving to me because Jamaicans had been asking me for dentistry for years. (Indeed, a community member had recently died from a dental infection which, untreated, had spread into his whole body.) Together, we removed about five hundred decayed teeth! BMP is actively partnering with the people of the Blue Mountains to pursue other facets of community development (through educational, vocational and ecomonic programs) but it is for my work as board chair of health care that I humbly apply for your support. Respectfully, Mary Z. Kohak
